The conference is being hosted by the Graphic Design Department at the Lebanese American University in Byblos. The Byblos campus is one of two campuses at LAU and is situated about 35 kilometers north of Beirut on a hilltop that overlooks Byblos, Lebanon, the backdrop of the conference. Today, Byblos is believed by many to be the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world. It is an ever-evolving community that maintains it cultural significances. As a country, Lebanon is known for excellence in higher education and cultural diversity providing an ideal location for Design Exchange ‘09.

 

The discipline of graphic design at the Lebanese American University strives to prepare accomplished graphic designers for both local and global markets. The program aims to foster creativity, self-sufficiency and critical thinking skills within its students. The curriculum provides a comprehensive education offering a range of theoretical and practical courses tackling various design experiences. Students develop an informed appreciation of the various contexts of visual communication. The program promotes socially conscious, ethically sound and environmentally aware design solutions. Design Exchange ’09 serves as an extension of the department’s mission.
